Quaker parrots are known for their great ability to talk, and are loyal birds. They are a good small sized bird for someone who doesn’t want to have the large cage, large bird, large mess of the bigger birds.
Quakers can also be quite comical at times. These birds are active and need a good amount of room in which to play. They also must have plenty of time outside of the cage to avoid behavioral problems. Before purchasing a Quaker, check your state’s laws on keeping them as pets. Here in Virginia, the breeder must band them in order to breed them. When purchasing a Quaker, one must be sure to well-socialize the baby because they have a tendency to bond securely to one person and may be nippy towards others.
Quaker parrots are usually about 12 inches long. A cage for a Quaker should be at least 18 inches, by 18 inches, by 24 inches tall.
Severes are the largest of the mini macaws, reaching lengths of about 18 to 19 inches. They can be excellent talkers and can learn a decent number of words.
